Man is an animal of the plain.
About ten years ago I went with my elderly parents to look at a gas fireplace for the den. We left Mama in the car and Papa and I went into the showroom. All of a sudden, we heard a car horn blowing frantically. Upon looking outside, the vehicle right next to ours was gone, disappeared into a sinkhole. The edge of it was literally a couple of inches from the tire on the side where Mama was sitting. The driver’s side looked fine, so I quickly got in and backed the car out getting it well away from the hole onto the driveway of the adjacent business. It turned out the vehicle had been parked over a place where there had once been a cesspit, like decades ago. Hopefully, the owner of the car or of the parking lot had good insurance. This was not in an area prone to landslides or sinkholes.
At mount saint Helens, people were just begging to be allowed into the safety exclusion zone… some did get in, and some miles downstream were burried in the slide… people just dont get it that this volcano stuff is extreemly dangerous… Even professional volcano experts sometimes die doing their jobs.

The Norwegian landslide was caused by melting permafrost – over the past five years, due to massive amounts of methane (CH4) escaping from the melting ground surrounding the Arctic Circle which has heated relatively faster than any other region on Earth – one molecule of CH4 is equivalent to about 25 of CO2 which makes it far more volatile than CO2. Unfortunately it is now in an irreversible feedback loop. Because of melting permafrost now more land is now being lost around the Arctic to coastal erosion than anywhere else.

The first pictures you see of Mt St Helen, that guy didnt die, another guy did. The first guy is in a documentary called "Minute By Minute: the eruption of Mount St Helen". There are people who are confused about that.
