I used to live in Wisconsin an hour away from baraboo, and what he said was hilarious to me. At least it wasn't the town known as Muscoda, Wisconsin everyone pronounced it as Moscoda. 😂
I had a visual of the tornado that went through Trempealeau,it passed about 400 yds from my position.Wasn't exactly sure of what it was because it was moving very fast.About 15 seconds worth.That cell had some intense lightning with it,1/2" hail and not much rain.

Ryan hall I'm a new sub here and I'll be listening to you when they are calling for bad weather around my part of the country and others too from now on here and I'm going to tell others about you here too now cause how many peoples lives you literally saved during this tragic weather event that happened with the different places in our country too
Wow. I wish I'd found this channel before this storm came through. I ended up watching KCCI's livestream on their website. Everyone was preparing all day for the storm. We were definitely worried it was going to be another derecho and that trauma hit us pretty hard. The straight line winds got pretty up there. KCCI was reporting up to 94 mph winds over by Atlantic, IA, I think. I know ISU recorded some wind speeds up in the 80-85 mph range (I live less than a mile from ISU's campus in Ames, IA). For those unfamiliar with Iowa, ISU is about 40 miles directly north of Des Moines along I-35.
Surprisingly, there were very few power outages. After the storm, I realized that was probably because almost all of our electric grid here in Iowa was just replaced last year thanks to the Derecho. Most of the power lines that went down were taken down by tornadoes. I'm glad schools across the state made the call to send students home at noon.

If this was a 'country-wide' derecho, it sure didn't make it to Chicago, IL. There was some lightning and thunder one night around Xmas, but no slammin-ass storm passing thru, that's for sure.

I'm still blown away by the amount of work put into these broadcasts. If you're not taken in by the maps, details and scientific aspect, you can still easily be taken in by the personality and the sound effects / lighting effects when warnings and watches go out. It makes it more likely that someone will continue to watch the stream despite something not happening at the current time.

Surprised no one corrected you on the pronunciation of Gowrie. The “Ow” is pronounced like the exclamation “OW!“ Or more fittingly for severe weather/chasing/tornadoes, the DOW. My mom’s brother and family lived in the area, thankfully they moved out of the area.
