The chapters describing ancient structures: Usually the reason they were abandoned was because either the land was over-farmed (yeah, I know that's not the right word), leading to poor soil cultivation, forcing the citizens to go elsewhere, or another type of catastrophic weather.
Although…Climate Change isn't a recent phenomenon – it's happened in Earth's history several times. Maybe that's what happened for a lot of powerful ancient civilizations: the weather went bad and never came back?

Those labyrinths on Bolshoy Zayatsky can be found in Finland too. We call them "jatulintarha" or "giant's gardens", though I can't find an explanation as to why. "Jatuli" is an old Finnish word for a giant and derives from Old Norse "jötunn".

The strange noises in the Chinese rock formations are done by the wind and storm depending on how it blows thru the very different erosions of the rock. A small breeze produces just some soft sound while a heavy storm is responsible for howling noises.
