Kings and Generals’ historical animated documentary series on the history of Ancient Civilizations continues with a video on the year 536 AD, which many historians consider the worst year in history, as plague, famine, volcanic eruption, and extreme weather patterns changed the fate of the millions, especially influencing Sassanid and Eastern Roman Empires.

So you're saying people don't cause climate change??

Josh Sharp January 8, 2022 at 4:34 pm

Another factor that I assume could have contributed to disease after the eruption was lack of vitamin D since it comes from the sun and also helps strengthen the immune system

I think the year 536 a.d is the age from which the Middle Ages begin. Because it changed people. Namely farmers, slaves, servants, stable boys, workers, etc., etc. These people changed a lot, that is, a classical period understanding and general education is now unnecessary or inportant and food is the most important thing ever. This also clavaned people to faith and religion. Reading / Writing and counting is a skill that fewer know or no longer need because of hunger or plegue.

536 A.D was undoubtedly one of the worst years ever lived by mankind, but it's safe to assume that during the Younger Dryas period (10600B.C – 9600B.C) Humankind suffered even more greatly.

I loved this awesome job

texasRoofDoctor January 16, 2022 at 5:25 pm

Pretty good until you equated the current semi-pandemic to Justinians Plague. The economic fallout from poor or even nefarious political decisions will be bad to be sure but once again, not the Black Death.

and after 3 decades, Prophet Muhammad was born.

And of course, according to history, it comes the Gothic tribes and of course the English language, we are using today. It is logic. The history is written by the winner.

~35 years after this event, Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W) was born. The Final Prophet for the Final Generation of Humanity. A sign of the approaching end of humanity and start of Judgement day.

Something similar happened in the few decades prior to the Birth of the Messiah,Jesus(A.S). The Roman Republic became the Roman Empire. The Greatest Roman Emperors (Ceasar,Augustus etc) all existed. The Egyptian Pharaohs finally were extinguished(Cleopatra).

In both cases, before the representative chosen by God appeared, the surrounding world underwent tectonic shifts in preparation for the arrival of these Great Men of history and faith. Laying the ground work to enable them to conduct their missions.

larrym12 January 21, 2022 at 6:52 am

was this one of the main reasons why there was the Fall of the Roman empire

Definitely not a fun year to be alive, but if it caused the European Dark Ages, wouldn’t it have also caused dark ages in Asian and Islamic civilizations, which were thriving during much of the Middle Ages?

Edda233 January 25, 2022 at 6:54 pm

This whole cloud theory seems really far fetched, clearly what was really going on was that the sun was greiving the death of King Arthur.

They think now that not one, but two major volcanic events lead to 536 being the worst year ever. The first was in Iceland and the second Volcano was Ilopango in El Salvador.

Anthony M Anderson January 30, 2022 at 10:45 am

It was a saddest and worst year in history!

Jeb Fahlgren February 1, 2022 at 5:32 am

Novarupta erupted on June 6 1912. In 1917 there was the Spanish Flu. This also fits the 1-5 year timeline of other Plagues.

David Catron February 7, 2022 at 1:48 pm

I dunno… 1944 if you were a Jew in Europe was a pretty bad year.
