When it comes to storms rely on yourself and your family. Don't rely on the government, when the government is involved in anything, you are the loser. If there is a big storm coming and you know it's going to be a big one. Don't wait on the government for help, help yourself and get the __ out.

You don't build a house on sand, and you don't build a major city in a bowl. NOLA was, and remains, a disaster looking for a place to happen, and it'll happen again.

Be prepared for weather or man disasters?βš–οΈ Each country has unique weather and should be properly prepared. priority should be based upon facts not desires or lack interest. now they have a plethora of different kinds of data including, lack equipment, street to street damage, flooding, bridges, death rolls, video footage there will be no excuses next time chemicals should not be allowed in any of these areas, there will be no excuses next time, restructuring even thru imminent domain to build up natural defenses, stronger, taller levy's, there will be no excuses next time officials at all levels need to be held accountable including FEMA, national weather service jail time for dereliction of duty. They had time to plan evacuate they were aware Disgusting. βœοΈπŸ™πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ¦‹πŸš

I remember Katrina the most because some family members were victims of the flood waters and some made it to the super dome. They never went back to New Orleans everything they had was destroyed so they rebuilt here in California. They helped better and quicker with Puerto Rico

"Reports of burglary began to rise. 23:29 In many cases these were just people desperate to get hold of essential supplies…" I call bull crap on that. There were NO reports of people stealing for what they needed to get by… Every video report was LOOTING, expensive tennis shoes (only a dozen pairs or more), clothing, and lots of flat screen TVs. It was NOT daily essential supplies. It was pure out and out looting and theft. This narration must have been written by a liberal afraid to tell the truth.

I live in Birmingham, AL and they busses hundreds and hundreds from NO up here. I was personally assaulted daily as I walked to my car (after work) to go home by groups of black teenage boys threatening me if I did not give them money. I was pushed against the wall and threatened as I tried to get on the elevator. The damned security guards in the garage made sure they stayed at the far end of the parking garage so they didn't have to confront these hoodlums. Also a friend of mine was a nurse who was at the Boutwell Center (next to the parking garage) who was helping those that needed medical care. She said that dozens of young people came in with stories they had lost their prescriptions for various drugs demanding she supply them with either prescriptions or drugs. We all knew, and so did she, that they were liars trying to get free drugs.

The park in front of the Boutwell Center was lined with good clean clothing for all. Every day they were fed free meals. By the 3rd day, the refugees were complaining and bitching because they were tired of eating hamburgers from local fast food places (Wendys, McDonalds, etc) – and were demanding better food – steaks, road, etc. What the hell? When you are bussed up here free, given a place to sleep that is warm, comfortable and dry, you are given 3 free meals a day, lots of clothings laid out for you to take, no questions asked… and you demand better food than McDonalds? How dare you!! I hope they NEVER bring people from NO back in this town again. Talk about being ungrateful!

Kosmiic July 14, 2022 at 6:25 am

I don’t remember hurricane Katrina that well I was pretty young but I remember hurricane Sandy in 2012 I was in middle school. It was a catagory 3. We lost power for 11-12 days and didn’t have heat for a week. most of the town next to me which is right by the water was almost destroyed apartment buildings business and the boats that were in the water were all thrown around like toys

The real crime is how the American Government refused to help the Puerto Rican islands afterward. The direct negligence was responsible for so many deaths.

William Katzer July 21, 2022 at 10:43 pm

24 minute mark. Guess we should stop focusing on loving the rest of the world and focus on what we need.

Richard Bellam July 22, 2022 at 2:09 am

Until you use american measurements fuck you and your metrics!

michael macdonald July 22, 2022 at 4:39 pm

When they say we and the government must be better prepared the government that caused the hurricane are just laughing and lying behind our back now they can even cause volcanoes earthquakes etc its a joke i would never vote for these criminals.

michael macdonald July 22, 2022 at 4:41 pm

Climate change sea rise and now the so called virus are all lies.

michael macdonald July 22, 2022 at 4:46 pm

I find it interesting the Puerto Rica government told the people the authority's will not be here for several days like they knew what was coming or planned what was coming all corruption.

Joe M July 24, 2022 at 1:28 pm

The problem is that people don't listen. When you're asked to evacuate, do so. If you refuse to evacuate, don't blame anyone for your stupidity. I personally think that after everyone is asked to evacuate and the means for evacuation and alternative shelter provided, if anyone refused to evacaute, nobody should risk his or her life trying to rescue them. When the hurricane is over, just go and bury their bodies. We should start holding people accountable for their actions and stop all these pampering. When you are asked to evacuate, do so. End of story.

What about hurricane Irene in New England that was extremely bad we lost historical covered bridges and whole highways whole roads were gone off the map

Jake Be August 2, 2022 at 11:55 pm

Katrina was a triple play..incompetence at local, state and federal levels, including Bush himself. A terrible tragedy for Louisiana, especially New Orleans.

Victor Latimer August 24, 2022 at 2:25 pm

IMO, there is nothing but ignorance when people keep repeating like parrots about countries corruption, despite the fact that we all know there is corruption in every country where's government systems; some more functional than others. Help can be approved and given to those in need with certain parameters. Stop the negative narrative and portraying countries in a demeaning way or to that effect because personal political views and/or biases. The end results, the effect is no receiving emergency assistance, much need help and relief efforts by agencies that are important to their survival. It happens that are victims who ended up affected, suffering and paying the huge consequences of incompetency, ineptitude and inabilities of each of these countries governments. Instead, we should help as much you can in such catastrophic events. Keep the good and informative documentaries!!

MoJoHand September 5, 2022 at 4:04 pm

What these hurricane shows never tell you about them is how the air pressure affects your head & ears while you’re in one. Even weaker hurricanes are terrifying.

A hURIKUHN

DillyBoyQ September 8, 2022 at 5:11 pm

FEMA is disgusting. Putting people in trailers with formaldehyde. So many people in todays day have disease & or died from that. The federal government let all of Louisiana down. Let all of America down. Still irks everyone here in the states today.

Tracy White September 19, 2022 at 10:16 pm

Maybe if the mayor of New Orleans had been more worried about the pepole then getting the city busses to safety less pepole would have died.

MB Voelker September 20, 2022 at 10:00 pm

Still promoting that fiction about the federal government not responding to New Orleans? facepalm

The state and city was offered aid and refused. The Governor and Mayor failed abysmally and tried to pass the buck.

Will Patton September 21, 2022 at 11:19 pm

The us government failed Louisiana when they needed it most 70+ hrs bc they was cleared to work there wrong supplies a bunch of bullshit if you ask me but I'm nobody so my opinion doesn't matter 🀷

Will Patton September 21, 2022 at 11:21 pm

Not to mention there own local government as well they know its always a possibility of a hurricane they should have had better barriers and retaining walls but I guess without funds from the federal government they can't afford to upgrade

Rebecca Paquette September 26, 2022 at 12:54 am

The thought of all the poor animals who died in those storms just breaks my heart.

Needed_A_Name_ October 3, 2022 at 11:40 pm

i was born the day before Katrina made landfall. there was a tornado outside our hospital room and the nurses wanted my mom to name me Katrina. When I turned 16, it was so strange seeing the news playing the 16th anniversary specials. my grandparents in Louisiana ate all their ice cream from the freezer in their basement.

Jude74 October 8, 2022 at 10:09 pm

They need to let that place go and let nature reclaim it.
