In Texas there are two days that tied for first place. One in 1936, and the other in 1994, both hitting 120F (or ~48.9C). The hottest temperature ever in the US (which happens to be the highest ever recorded anywhere) was in Death Valley California. It was 134F, or 56.7C, and that occurred July 10th, 1913.

Look up the 25 July 2001 "Blood Rain" in Kerala. Spoiler alert: it wasn't actual blood falling from they sky but a lot of people thought it was at the moment. "Blood Rain" has occurred in many parts of the world throughout recorded history. In older times it was usually seen as a sign from a god about coming catastrophe.
