This is not a proper lightning strike (thankfully). It appears to be one of those wannabe ground streams that rise from the ground hoping to connect to a downward lightning strike. Only one of many streams manages to connect and the others die out. Had this been a cloud to ground lightning, things would have been different.

Good thing he had one foot on the ground. You can get shocked Soo much worse with two feet on the ground getting worse the further they are apart.

The formation of lightning is associated not only with processes in the atmosphere, but also with what happens in the depths of our planet.

Our planet is currently entering a 12,000-year cycle during which the Earth's core is exposed to external cosmic influence.
Due to the displacement and instability of the core, more and more deep-focus earthquakes are occurring at a depth of 300-800 km in the Earth's mantle.

They release a huge amount of energy and charged particles, which leads to a redistribution of charges, increased ionization of the air and, as a result, the formation of lightning.
