RERELEASE: How can we find common ground on climate change? | The Big Story

We realized recently that we’ve done an awful lot of climate coverage this summer, and that it’s been overwhelmingly depressing. So, as we take a brief hiatus for this long weekend Monday, we thought we’d dig this old episode out of the vault, where climate scientist, Katharine Hayhoe, outlines a better way to do climate discourse.

We hope you enjoy!

——————–

ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES:

Reports on the impact of a rapidly warming globe make some people depressed. They make some people angry. And they make others deny scientific research altogether. They don’t make anybody hopeful…but maybe they should?

Today’s discussion with climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe—guest editor of this month’s issue of Chatelaine—is an answer to the despair you might feel when reading the latest news stories. It’s also a lesson in how to talk to your friends and family who either don’t believe in climate change or aren’t willing to take any action because “it’s too small to make a difference.” You don’t have to go vegan, sell your car, or move to the forest to make a difference—even though it might feel you do. There’s a better way.

GUEST: Katharine Hayhoe, climate scientist, guest editor of Chatelaine

I'm not buying any of this unevidenced hokum.

Are you?

There can be no common ground while the climate activists keep lying

Chris Minister of Smartarsery August 7, 2023 at 10:58 am

Be realistic. Instead of just giving the government money to change the atmosphere of an entire planet as we repeatedly miss environmental goals actually provide solutions.

Foghorn Leghorn August 7, 2023 at 11:12 am

Not going to find common ground until the lies and fearmongering stop.

Eric Cartman August 7, 2023 at 11:20 am

Stop lying and blaming everything on climate change. We had forest fires, floods and everything else for millions of years, climate change is not causing them, it might be making them more severe.
Explain how more government control and taxes actually help climate change. When the government fails to meet its own targets for climate change demand answers as to why. When the liberals give one of the rambling non-answers call them out on it and demand they answer the question

By ignoring the climate hysterics from the Left.

Me Hungy! August 7, 2023 at 12:48 pm

The left lies all day so how can we?

They say all children will die from it. They've scared an entire generation into believing it. Pure fear, emotionally driven, no facts.

They think carbon taxes work and lie about rebates while ignoring inflation, high costs of living, etc. All the while carbon emissions have not decreased but the left will not admit it.

The left cant admit anything they do does nothing. They lie non stop, they smear the other side and have no idea what the other side even is.

How can one discuss anything, with a environmentalist, when all they do is lie and smear?

Common ground is easy, have a debate between independent climate scientists and government funded climate scientists.

Grand Muff Twerkin August 7, 2023 at 1:35 pm

Maybe dial back the hysteria….

mrpotatohead and hisfantastic eyebrows August 7, 2023 at 1:43 pm

Vlad the Inhaler August 7, 2023 at 6:34 pm

By increasing the Carbon Tax again..and again…and again….oh….wait a minute…..they're already doing that.

Del Evans August 7, 2023 at 8:27 pm

Pierre Poilievre will never be PM because he’s Canada’s #1 Climate Change Denier. That is the reason Trudeau wants to run in the next election he will bait him in debates like O’Toole, Scheer and Harper before him then erase his polling lead before coming back from behind to win the next election again.😂

Common ground will be found when the media stops sensationalizing and starts doing their job as the line between the public and the government. And when science isn’t funded by special interests groups that skew, omit and suppress findings… and let’s be honest about records. We always refer to current temperatures to the beginning of our records in the mid 1800’s…but there were millions of years of climate before that. Is that not relevant? And Based on ice for samples, our records started in a cooler than normal period. So comparing todays temps with what we found in ice cores gives us a very different picture. The media is paid advertising for the corporations and governments of the world, and that’s why the people choose independent.
