Strange Heartland History: The Night They Tried to Steal Lincoln’s Corpse

Lying in his coffin, Abraham Lincoln’s face had assumed the color of a bronze statue.
This is what one onlooker remarked following a special viewing of the dead president’s body in 1901. It was the fifth time in 36 years such a viewing had occurred, primarily to verify if Lincoln’s corpse was still in its rightful place. Why? Because of grave robbers like Big Jim Kennally.
