The month of July is all but set to go down in history as one marked by an unprecedented number of extreme weather events globally. In Asia, the dire picture largely ricocheted between deadly floods and scorching temperatures. Meanwhile, blistering heatwaves swept across the northern hemisphere, shattering temperature records across Europe and the US. Experts have described July 2023 as the hottest month ever globally. Professor Janette Lindesay, a climatologist at the Australian National University, shared more about the recent extreme weather events.

But among the destruction, there is hope. As Sarah Morice reports, this year’s COP26 climate change conference may not have delivered all that was wished for, but it does leave the world with a fighting chance.

Bob Ward is the Policy and Communcations Director at the London School of Economics Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. He told us more about the economic toll of extreme weather events.
