Extreme weather – Fires, floods and storms wreak havoc across the world https://paranormalactivity.org/extreme-weather-fires-floods-and-storms-wreak-havoc-across-the-world/ https://paranormalactivity.org/extreme-weather-fires-floods-and-storms-wreak-havoc-across-the-world/#comments Tue, 25 Jul 2023 18:29:50 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/extreme-weather-fires-floods-and-storms-wreak-havoc-across-the-world/

Extreme weather throughout July has caused havoc across the planet, with temperatures breaking records in China, the United States and southern Europe, sparking forest fires, water shortages, storms and floods.

Wildfires killed 34 people in Algeria and forced the evacuation of thousands of tourists from the Greek island of Rhodes as an intense summer heatwave scorched large areas of the Mediterranean.

Another blaze caused the temporary closure of Palermo airport on the southern Italian island of Sicily on Tuesday, while an overnight storm tore off roofs and brought down trees in the north of the country, killing two people.

In some parts of eastern Sicily, temperatures rose to 47.6 Celsius on Monday, close to a record European high of 48.8 Celsius recorded on the island two years ago.
#Wildfire #Weather #Climatechange

It was even hotter in North Africa, with temperatures of 49 Celsius recorded in some cities in Tunisia.

Neighbouring Algeria deployed some 8,000 firefighters to bring its deadly fires under control, authorities said.

In Asia, monsoon rains wreaked havoc across Pakistan on Tuesday (July 25), after parts of the commercial capital Karachi were inundated on the previous night.

Meanwhile, China urged fishing boats to seek shelter as Super Typhoon Doksuri spiralled closer to East Asia, potentially reaching deep into China.

Doksuri is likely to be the most powerful typhoon to land in China so far in the storm season this year.

In Pakistan, 13 people died and seven were injured due to heavy rains and landslides as monsoon season continued to affect parts of the country on Sunday.

In the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, nine people lost their lives over the last 48 hours in rain-related incidents.

Cuba recorded record-high temperatures for July on Sunday, when the scorching hot weather drove thermometers up to 39 degrees Celsius, further worsened by a lack of rain.

Without human-induced climate change, the events this month would have been “extremely rare,” according to a study by World Weather Attribution, a global team of scientists that examines the role played by climate change in extreme weather.

Record temperature warning as heatwave hits southern Europe – BBC News https://paranormalactivity.org/record-temperature-warning-as-heatwave-hits-southern-europe-bbc-news/ https://paranormalactivity.org/record-temperature-warning-as-heatwave-hits-southern-europe-bbc-news/#comments Thu, 13 Jul 2023 22:14:01 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/record-temperature-warning-as-heatwave-hits-southern-europe-bbc-news/

A fierce heatwave is sweeping across southern Europe, with warnings of record-breaking temperatures

Temperatures are expected to surpass 40C (104F) in parts of Spain, France, Greece, Croatia and Turkey.

In Italy, temperatures could reach as high as 48.8C (119.8F). A red alert warning has been issued for 10 cities, including Rome, Bologna and Florence.

The Cerberus heatwave – named by the Italian Meteorological Society after the three-headed monster that features in Dante’s Inferno – is expected to bring more extreme conditions in the next few days.

It isn’t just Europe that is hot. This summer has seen temperature records smashed in parts of Canada and the US as well as across a swathe of Asia including in India and China.

Sea temperatures in the Atlantic have hit record highs while Antarctic sea ice is at the lowest extent ever recorded.
And it is going to get hotter.

A weather pattern called El Niño is developing in the tropical Pacific. It tends to drive up temperatures by around 0.2C on average.

Add in the roughly 1.1C that climate change has pushed average temperatures up by worldwide and it’s perilously close to the 1.5C threshold the world has agreed to try and keep global temperatures below.

Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by climate editor Justin Rowlatt.

Natural Disasters for Kids | Learn about tornados, hurricanes, and more! https://paranormalactivity.org/natural-disasters-for-kids-learn-about-tornados-hurricanes-and-more/ Fri, 17 Feb 2023 23:05:56 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/natural-disasters-for-kids-learn-about-tornados-hurricanes-and-more/

Can you name five natural disasters? How about ten? Twenty? Natural Disasters for Kids discusses quite a few of these crazy storms. It specifically discusses ten of the most common and what causes them to occur. In addition, you’ll learn a few things you can do to get ready for a natural disaster in your area.

The most common type of natural disaster in the U.S. is flooding. Nearly 90% of all disasters actually involve flooding in some way. Floods can result from tropical storms, hurricanes, extreme rains, or even thawing snow. On the opposite end of the spectrum is a drought. When an area experiences a drought, it means that there is intense heat and an extreme lack of precipitation. Droughts can kill plants and reduce freshwater supply.

Another common natural disaster is the tsunami. Tsunamis are rare in the United States. These large ocean waves that form after an earthquake happens end up flooding coastal land. Hurricanes similarly produce excessive rainfall and often a lot of flooding. Wind speeds during a hurricane can reach up to 150 miles an hour! Still, the worst wind storm would be a tornado, with speeds up to 300 miles per hour.

Luckily, there are things we can do to help get ready for these storms. These are the three Ps: plan, prepare, and practice. It always helps to have a plan that outlines what you should do in case a natural disaster occurs. Then it’s important to prepare by gathering necessary supplies. And like practicing for a fire drill at school, it’s a good idea to practice the plan you made and ensure it works.

We hope you and your student(s) enjoyed learning about these common storms! If you want to learn even more, head over to our website and download one of our many lesson plans about natural disasters, full of activities, worksheets, and more!

What is the RISKIEST Region in the US as the Climate Changes? https://paranormalactivity.org/what-is-the-riskiest-region-in-the-us-as-the-climate-changes/ https://paranormalactivity.org/what-is-the-riskiest-region-in-the-us-as-the-climate-changes/#comments Wed, 25 Jan 2023 19:52:09 +0000 https://paranormalactivity.org/what-is-the-riskiest-region-in-the-us-as-the-climate-changes/

Climate Change is increasing the frequency and severity of natural disasters all around the world. And in the United States, more and more people seem to be moving to the places that are projected to be most impacted by climate change, from hazards such as flooding, wildfire, storms, drought and extreme heat; and leaving the most climate-resilient areas. At first glance, this seems like a bizarre and paradoxical trend. So, for this episode of Weathered, we decided to see if we could get to the bottom of it.

We spoke to experts and sifted through lots of data about moving trends and shifting climate patterns to figure out what’s really going on here and what you can do to avoid moving into harm’s way.

Weathered is a show hosted by weather expert Maiya May and produced by Balance Media that helps explain the most common natural disasters, what causes them, how they’re changing, and what we can do to prepare.

Top 10 DEADLIEST Natural Disasters Caught On Camera

A video released shows the moment when the tsunami hit a small Japanese port town on March 16, 2011.
It’s crazy to see how fast the water came in, even more crazy how high it rose natural disasters. I feel truly saddened for all the people who suffered from this. It’s also horrible just for even watching this natural disasters.
Seeing that man on the roof and then not seeing that building anymore is just overwhelms natural disasters. and a heart breaking scream from a woman, who just watched her home be destroyed natural disasters.
