China is facing three unusual extreme weather events in parts of the country, affecting millions of people.

Reuters reports that China is currently facing an “unusual” combination of heavy rains, heat and tornadoes in parts of the country.

Millions of people have been displaced, structures damaged and farmland flooded.

Southern China is expected to continue with heavy rains until June 21. Over the past week, downpours have caused significant damage to a large and densely populated area.

Authorities have been warning of “extreme weather events” as early as April, ahead of the rainy season that heralds the transition from spring to summer in June.

China has a long history of dealing with floods. Over the years, the nation of billions has become more vulnerable to this phenomenon due to deforestation, reclaiming wetlands and storing water for electricity generation and irrigation.

China also believes that climate change is increasing the frequency of extreme weather events, as rainfall and temperature in some localities have repeatedly increased to record levels in recent years.

Yesterday, a tornado swept through Guangzhou province in a big storm. About 5,400 customers lost power in the southern city.

Local media in Guangzhou reported dangerous water levels, with high waves in the vast Pearl River basin, prompting the central government to dispatch flood prevention personnel to prepare for the danger.

A monitoring station recorded a wave 2.45m high the day before, the highest in 20 years.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau in Fujian province warned that recent record rainfall will continue into next week, posing a high risk of natural disasters.

While southern China grapples with the risk of widespread flooding, central and northern China is expected to face unusually high temperatures next week, exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The weather was unusually hot. took place in Henan’s capital Zhengzhou, which suffered record rainfall and was crippled by devastating floods last summer. The heat wave is expected to spread over the next few days.
