I still believe robotaxis fully autonomous are decades away. There are simply too many situations in real life were a human understanding is necessary. I can give countless examples. The first major hurdle will be legal and the second major hurdle will be infrastructures.
I was in my local CostCo here in AZ, and a Waymo drove through the parking lot. And I'd swear there was no one in the driver's seat. So they may already be doing this.
Pretty soon we can think of Tesla as a constantly improving, world wide machine turning out factories on an assembly line like basis, that constantly improve, update, become faster, become more efficient, and turn out more and more product, just like the world wide machine that made them.
I’m on the latest release and had one phantom breaking event at a bridge in the middle of the night. However, it was way less dramatic than in previous versions.
Robotic charging will also be good for those with disabilities. And also in inclement weather conditions. In both cases there’s a driver who would prefer to stay inside the vehicle. So I could see robotic charging rolling out in the equivalent of a handicap spot within a charging station.
