Feels good to be back, thank you all for being patient. Hope this one is worth the wait 🙂

It's the nostalgia that I didn't know that I needed 😆.

Zach Samulka December 25, 2022 at 10:52 pm

Appreciate the Frasier shoutout lol. Favorite show of all time

Lady X December 25, 2022 at 11:03 pm

I knew that nirvana was coming.. my jam outside preferred genre… I'm est 1980 I was coming of age and it's amazing to realize how influenced u can be by music u weren't a fan of.. I love shit like this! Non bias content rocks

Lonnie Sharp December 26, 2022 at 12:10 am

This is a great collection. In all honesty, if you were to do this decade real justice, the video would be about 3 hours long. The one thing you didn't touch on that I was expecting, was the 91 release of Rage Against The Machine's self titled. The whole rap-rock and rap-funk of RATM, Faith No More, Living Colour etc.

Shaun December 26, 2022 at 12:52 am

The chronic is one of the most important albums in music history.

hairscythe December 26, 2022 at 2:14 am

My question is how R.E.M. an Nine Inch Nails weren't on this list tbh

bACe in Yo' fACe! December 26, 2022 at 3:08 am

awesome video!

I love the 90s!

Sam Jespersen December 26, 2022 at 4:57 am

as someone who was sentient in the 90s, not mentioning marilyn manson seems weird

keoface December 26, 2022 at 5:11 am

do 80s next pls

broerie December 26, 2022 at 8:56 am

Brilliant stuff! The cultural references, the research, the editing, the humor,…. Loved it!

MRR D December 26, 2022 at 9:47 am

The bit about the MP3 and Tom's Diner was so dang cool.

Antione Lancelin December 26, 2022 at 10:27 am

My simple answer that started off in the 90's when it comes to music is Enigma with the legendary worldwide hit song Sadeness along with Return To Innocence.

itchywitch December 26, 2022 at 12:57 pm

You can't discuss 1997 music without mentioning the album Ok Computer lol

"At this point I have a request for our fans. If any of you in any way hate homosexuals, people of different color, or women, please do this one favor for us – leave us the fuck alone! Don't come to our shows and don't buy our records…"

-Kurt Cobain…was ahead of his time.

Markus Hilbert December 26, 2022 at 4:02 pm

you've left out entire very defining parts like the beastie boys, nine inch nails and the complete electronic music (was that more an european thing – or is enough said about all that, by mentioning "raves"? love parade, mayday, the prodigy, … )

still: was a nice travel back in time 😉

Cristian December 26, 2022 at 5:47 pm

everyone says 'the 90s was best era for music'. no, just the first 7 years. 1997 the hangover kicked in and it was all shit. but between grunge, britpop, older legends like clapton and unplugged album, etc. the early/mid 90's were the last great era.

Daehawk December 26, 2022 at 8:40 pm

1990s best decade of my life. Ill never forget it.

Hip hop rap gangsta rap

Evan Se7en December 26, 2022 at 9:12 pm

Disappointed by the lack of Nine Inch Nails. It wasn't just grunge and pop punk which provided the soundtrack for adolescent angst back then. Industrial was equally as huge in the 90s and NIN were the de facto kings of the genre.

Chibi-Kitten Plays December 26, 2022 at 9:45 pm

adds -in america to the title

Josey November December 26, 2022 at 10:58 pm

That was so good.

Duane December 26, 2022 at 11:21 pm

90s music started with Jesus Jones. and other college radio songs that went mainstream.

were you even around in the 90s?

Cinthya Garcia December 27, 2022 at 1:11 am

I think Nirvana was the most representative group of the decade…….wether or not you like it…Ahhh the 90's!

Marcelo Gonçalves December 27, 2022 at 1:32 am

The music from the 90's parties, with beer that wasn't rice or corn, listened to Metallica, Los del Rio – Italian Dance and Ice-T in the same place and people had fun.

Then, standard Disney and industrialized Hip Hop artists came along and screwed it up.

Carlos Lopez December 27, 2022 at 1:42 am

this was a good vid!!!

Nate December 27, 2022 at 3:33 am

I enjoyed your last bit. That is how I think of the 90s. I grew up in the 90s, a lot of that music still gets played in my house. But it was very a very flawed time, one inwhich needed to change. I think of the 90s at time right before the shift in music, politics, and everyday life…a time directly before the mainstream internet and digtial music.

David Wiley December 27, 2022 at 5:06 am

Was enjoying the video until Oashit.

Little Nicci December 27, 2022 at 5:07 am

@ MicTheSnare & @ tipthescales27 https://youtu.be/ZfV7NLCWiiU Omg same thing I said actually 90% of the reason I even watched this video was I was hoping to see. I mean I get that 1st album was out in ‘89 but downward spiral was released in ‘94. It is regarded as #122 of 500 rolling stone best albums of All Time. # 2 /200 top billboard list ‘94. Sold 3.7million copies. Considered their best album Trent Reznor’s “opus”
And one of the most important albums of the ‘90s. “ sonically groundbreaking “changed the music landscape “ mainstreamed industrial rock. Spins 100 greatest albums ‘85-‘05 #25. Original “Hurt” remade by Johnny cash winning many awards . Oh and lest not forget which was brought up in video Woodstock ‘94 . Nin performed covered in mud from mud fight backstage b4 going on. Considered the most memorable “iconic” performance of the festival.

Yeah, the transition from metal to grunge just didn't resonate with me. I had a father who was into old school country. Grew up with it, and a girlfriend into the rise of country. I was a huge fan of Eagles and Doogie Brothers andnd Lynard Skynard. The move from rock to country was seamless for me

Oscar Gonzalez December 27, 2022 at 8:09 am

Do a reaction to those events

Chad Wilson December 27, 2022 at 9:41 am

New kid's on the block? Man I knew you didn't have the right stuff…

Simone December 27, 2022 at 10:14 am

I have a bad attention span, so I may have missed it, but was Marilyn Manson mentioned? Even though he wasn't at the top of my music list during the 90s, I feel he was pretty significant. I could be wrong.

guyverdio December 27, 2022 at 12:00 pm

I think Marilyn Manson should have got a mention. Especially since the Columbine shootings happened on 20th April 1999 which led him to become the music industries primary target of blame.

Harry Balzak December 27, 2022 at 3:36 pm

pretty good video, but you missed how alternative rock became mainstream and post-grunge. yes they are different, think R.E.M. or Third Eye Blind as compared to Creed or Bush. kind of missed freestyle too. yes, it was around in the mid to late 80's but continued into the early 90's just like new jack swing.

John Falcon December 27, 2022 at 5:04 pm

Great video.

Tony Ngo December 27, 2022 at 5:37 pm

great video … I would love to hear your thoughts on the affect that Kpop has affected the music industry

ValjeanDK December 27, 2022 at 7:09 pm

The 90's were defined by actual good music.

ValjeanDK December 27, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Skipping The Black Album like that….
Playing to a crowd of 1.6 million people in Russia in 1991, certainly seemed defining to me.

Alister Laban December 27, 2022 at 8:49 pm

The nostalgia, omg!! 😊 though a little heavy on the pop/rock and not as musically diverse as your 00s and 2010s videos 😬

Instead of a fleeting remark, I would've accentuated the importance/contributions of female TLC, including the fashions. They were HUGE!

Record bosses like LA Reid, Clive Davis and Tommy Mottola who were instrumental to the inner workings of the industry and gave us heavyweights like Whitney, Mariah, Usher and JLo. And speaking of JLo, no mentions of the Latin explosion (Ricky Martin etc)? No even a clip of Waiting For Tonight at turn of the millennium?

But most criminal, no Michael Jackson at all?!! 😳😳

finallywoken13 December 28, 2022 at 2:01 am

The Cranberries ❗️❗️❗️

nagy endre December 28, 2022 at 2:21 am

These should've been mentioned too:
Depeche Mode – "Violator" (1990);
Michael Jackson – "Dangerous" (1991);
UB40 – "Promises & Lies" (1993);
The Prodigy – "Music For The Jilted Generation" (1994);
Michael Jackson – "History" (1995);
The Fugees – "The Score" (1996);
The Prodigy – "The Fat Of The Land" (1997);
P.O.D. – "The Fundamental Elements of Southtown" (1999).
Etc.

So glad this came up in my recommendations. No BS, this is one of the absolute BEST short-form/essay music documentaries I have ever seen. Can't wait to check out the other decades that have already been covered, and I hope you continue to do more. Thanks for this amazing work!

aNsWeRkEy02 December 28, 2022 at 9:52 am

damn these songs were nostalgic

Trevor Richard December 28, 2022 at 9:58 am

Nothing about Dangerous on here? Crazy

Conservaliberaltarian December 28, 2022 at 4:10 pm

I’m looking at the thumbnail. Brittany Spears came out in 1999. She doesn’t represent the 90s.
